I stumbled across Solitary arts whilst trying to find some imagery of work by Geoff McFetridge. Geoff works in a very unique and cultural way, he enjoys handcrafted and handmade work because it means something to him. His approach to illustration is a fresh of breathe air to me because its not about style or fashion its about personality and self expression.
A have taken this text from the website because I think it best describes his approach to art and life in general-
We need to cobble together what skating means to us. The same goes for bicycling, skiing, surfing, paddling, climbing, painting, pottery, design, and cartooning. We have to separate what we know about the things we love and what we have been told. Puritan versions of culture are the product of marketeers and lowest common denominators. Have a good time doing the worst drawing you ever did and a day without ollies can do you good.
How does this relate to my work or the work of just us? Well I think all of us have this approach to what we do, its not about money or fashion, its about doing what we love and enjoying it. I think if we always remember this then we will continue to create interesting and unique work.
