The dissertation was a major part of this years body of work and an important one if I wanted to gain my Honours in Graphic Design. We had 2 options on how to write the research project; 1 being a entirely written essay of between 5 and 6 thousand words and 2 being an essay accompanied by an artefact that helps support a 4-5 thousand word essay. I chose the latter because I felt that I would benefit greatly from writing an essay based on practical research.
The title of my research project was: Why has there been a return to hand crafted art & design in modern contemporary communication?; aesthetic value and cultural references. This proved quite a difficult question but an interesting one none the less as handcrafted art & design is a strong interest of mine.
The image above shows one of my first artefacts which was created to show the difference in appearance one gets from using 2 completely different tools. The obvious thing being that one looks tactile and one does not, does this create a different viewing experience or provoke seperate opinions about the work? This was all discussed in my essay.
