Dissertation Artefact 1

I created a body of practical work to acompany the written reserch paper ‘Have Modernist Values in Typography been superseded by the Contemporary need for changing Styles.’ The Purpose of this artifact is to illustrate ideas and concepts brought up in the written reserch paper as well as using typographical practice as a method of reserching the ideologies in both contempoary and modernist typography. This artifact will demonstrate critical theorys and possibilities in the practice of typography disscussed in the written reserch paper.

I created this typeface in order to find out how you could borrow the modernist style
without using modernist values and ideologies. This typeface shows how borrowing of past styles is a relativly easily this to do. I wanted a italic typeface becauuse i have always like them i dont know why but they seem to appeal to me. This would differnecate the typeface from its borrowed historic style. But the letter forms clean lines and consistant sizing of the weight of all parts of the typeface, shows the style of late modernsit type in the period which would was called international style.

By doing this i have created a typeface with reference to the modernist period, using the form of letters to influence my type, but also creating somehthing with originality, seen in the italic nature of the font. This typeface therefore shows that
contempoary type can easily borrow the style of modernist type but not so easily
replicate all of modernist original ideolgies.
