As part of my Artefact I was also looking at hand rendered type and why this is used in some artists/designers work, some designers choose to use hand rendered type because they love the experience of creating it and the effect it has on a piece of work they apply it to. Others choose to use ready made fonts on the computer because they either haven't enough time to draw it out or do'nt have the skills to do so.
In the piece above I chose to inter great the two and print a well know typeface from the computer (Baskerville), and apply hand rendered skills to it by tracing the font with a pen. This utilizes the two mediums and also creates a font that appears hand rendered, not losing the fun part of creating something unique.
